ESTABLISHMENT OF TERRA MINERALS LAB IN PERAK FOR LOCAL MINERAL RSOURCES, ESPECIALLY RARE EARTH ELEMENTS (REE)
On October 3rd, 2024, the Officiating Ceremony of the Terra Minerals Lab in Gopeng, Ipoh marked a significant leap for mineral research in Malaysia!
The ceremony was graced by the Chief Minister of Perak, along with state executive council members and representatives from MBI Inc Perak, state government subsidiaries, the Department of Minerals and Geoscience, and various leading universities. The collaboration among these sectors highlights a collective commitment to advancing innovation in mineral exploration.
Universiti Malaya was represented by Dr. Hijaz Kamal bin Hasnan, Protem Leader of the Centre of Excellence in Rare Earth Elements Research, Associate Professor Dr. Ahmad Farid Abu Bakar from the Department of Geology, and Associate Professor Dr. Ninie Suhana Abdul Manan from the Department of Chemistry. Their involvement underlines UM's dedication to contributing to sustainable mineral research and supporting key innovations in this area.
