TROPICAL WEATHERING
Tropical weathering occurs under high temperature and rainfall throughout the
year. The rate of weathering under tropical conditions for most rocks is higher
than that found in other regions.
Some examples
Differential
weathering of calcareous sediments in uppermost part of Machinchang Formation,
Tanjung Sabang, Langkawi.
Geodes, which are mineral-lined concretions in sedimentary rocks.
Laterite under tropical conditions of weathering iron is largely insoluble and
concentrates in a residual laterite
Mudstone with concentric weathering indicated by
variously coloured layers due to different states of oxidation of iron.
